Virus, Spyware, or other corruption.

Do virus scan, spyware scan, and do start-%26gt;run "sfc /scannow"

This is the system file checker (came with Windows) and replaces corrupt system files with originals. It will require the Windows CD

windows recovery disk

insert it then go to repair.
recovery disk might help, but whatever problem caused it, is still there. sounds like either a software conflick or more likely, malware or spyware.
if you have the original installation cd, go to start%26gt; run and type in sfc /scannow (there is a space between the sfc and /scannow). This is the system file check in XP...it will scan your protected windows files for any changes or corruption and if it finds any, it will ask you to insert the cd....then it will copy the files from the cd and replace the bad ones.....once finished, you'll need to go to windows update and do a little updating
You can try this tool to fix it:

Good luck!
